FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Which cities are supported by MapofCities?

MapofCities supports any location on Earth. Public city pages come from the published archive, and Studio uses global map data so you can search for a town, village, neighborhood, or exact coordinates to generate a custom map poster.

What map styles and themes are available?

We offer two main rendering modes. 'Standard Mode' provides clean, minimalist light and dark themes. 'Artistic Vector Mode' offers highly stylized palettes like Cyber Noir, Blueprint, and Ethereal Glow, allowing you to create truly unique, poster-worthy artwork.

Can I add custom markers or routes to my map?

Yes! In the Studio, you can drop custom location pins (such as hearts, stars, or modern dots) to mark special places. You can also draw custom A-to-B routes to commemorate a road trip, marathon, or daily commute.

What typography options do I have for the text overlay?

The Studio provides dozens of premium Google Fonts. You can individually customize the font families for the City Title, Country name, and Coordinates to perfectly match your interior design style.

Can I adjust the map's composition and layout?

Absolutely. You can fine-tune the perspective zoom, change the text overlay layout (horizontal or vertical), apply cinematic vignette or radial shadow effects, and add a digital 'Passepartout' (Mat) border with adjustable corner radiuses for a framed look.

In what format and sizes can I export my map poster?

You can export your creation as an ultra-high-resolution PNG file. The Studio supports standard poster aspect ratios including A-series (A4, A3, A2), common framing sizes (18x24, 24x36), square formats, and mobile wallpapers.

Is the exported poster free to use?

Yes, you can generate and download posters for free. The map data is provided by OpenStreetMap and OpenFreeMap. We kindly ask that you keep the attribution visible if you use it publicly.
